Installation Essentials
We would like to illustrate you some concepts of the pressing installation:
Fixing of the Profile Gasket
The Profile GasketProfile Gaskets avoid water intake, corrosion, dust, and dirt. They improve the acoustic os the vehicle.
During vehicle assembly, automobiles are outfitted with a wide range of profile gaskets and seals.
The function and body structure of the vehicle is shaped by the inner characteristics of the material and the external appearance of the gaskets.
Vulcanized rubber is often also used in the manufacturing of profile gaskets.
A backing which functions as a base plate is placed in the profile gasket.
Various forms are available due to the variety of vehicles in the automotive market, for example:
- Seals with crepe lips;
- Seals coated with anti-seize compound;
- Seals with flock-coated areas;
- ...
These seals are developed new for every type of vehicle and the design and function are adjusted to the desired application.
The Backing
Seals and gaskets are equipped with a backing to hold them securely on the sheet metal flange.
As a rule, this backing consists of a formed sheet metal strip or a coiled spring wire.
The backing influences the flexible and elastic behaviour of the profile gasket or seal at the vehicle. It may consists of aluminium or steel.
The backing and the cooperation of the inner rubber lips in the tighting zone play an important role for the later hub of the seal on the car body sheet.
Delivery Condition of the Profile Gasket
The backing's bending angle has been pre- adjusted to make the pre-installation easier.
The profile gaskets are converted to a certain length by the profile manufacturer.
The profile gasket is often assembled to a ring by the process of vulcanization.
The pressing roll squeezes the profile gasket on the sheet-metal flanch. With the help of the bending rolls the backing is formed and the gasket is fixed on the sheet- metal flange.
The clamping lips can function optimal as a sealing element because of the high contact pressure of the reinforcement.
